 What is Breath Work ?

Just like the stillness in the dawn and dusk of each day, the breath can bring us peace and stillness within .

Breath work is the active awareness of the breath, using  various breathing techniques to help benefit the body and mind. Today there are many different styles of breath work out there, Buteyko, Holotropic, Oxygen Advantage etc , many of them stem from ancient Pranayama practices and each have their advantages.

The breath has been present with us since the beginning of life. Breathing is the first and last thing we do on our arrival and departure from this earth. Our breath is our life force energy, needless to say how we breath has a huge impact on the quality of our lives. Ancient cultures saw the breath as medicine, a tool within us, that we could use to help heal the mind and body, physically , emotionally, spiritually and mentally. 

Over the course of time we have lost our awareness of the breath. As it is an automatic response in the body we can easily take it for granted, forgetting the vital benefits it provides for us. In today’s hectic world we can become even further removed from our selves, loosing that all important connection to our intuition and to who we truly are. Our breath is a powerful tool that we can use to reconnect to ourselves, helping us life a healthier, happier and more peaceful lives.

Who is Breath Work for?

Breath work is for anyone who wants to improve their health and wellbeing. Breath work is for those who are ready to take action for positive change in their lives. If you are ready to make small changes in your everyday life by adding the benefit of breath work to your day, after a few weeks you will really notice a difference in your state of mind and body and how you see the world around you. There are breath work techniques for everyone, however if you have any serious health conditions I recommend you consult with your GP before going to a class or 1-1 session.

Why Breathe with me

My journey with the breath began unintentionally when I was a child due to suffering with anxiety and panic attacks. From a young age, I witnessed the power of the breath as it journeyed me through this challenging time.

I am trained in both Pranayama and Oxygen Advantage  breath work techniques. These techniques compliment each other wonderfully allowing me to tailor sessions and classes for a variety of needs. Whether its to reduce stress and anxiety, improve respiratory health, sports performance or overall health and wellbeing, breath work techniques and an understanding of how they work, offer something for everyone.

My initial training in Pranayama taught me the diversity and balance of the breath. This practice does not solely focus on one aspect of the self but all, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional. There are many different techniques making it accessible to everyone. My later training in Oxygen Advantage brought a new perspective to my breathing practice. It taught me all about functional breathing for wellbeing, health and sports performance.

With a deeper insight into the science of breathing and new techniques combined with my Pranayama practice, I turned a major corner in my own health and wellbeing. I use breathing practices daily to assist me on my continuous journey of growth, allowing me to clear energy blocks, change mindset, regain clarity and focus. It also brings me to a place of stillness so that I can just be, enabling me to recharge and refresh . Not to mention the improvement in my swimming!

During my classes and 1-1 sessions my primary aim is to empower my clients to connect to themselves, using the power of their breath to develop self awareness, improve vitality, health and develop inner peace and joy.

I teach breath work and meditation classes in Bantry and Leap, West Cork and also travel to schools and businesses to share this powerful tool those who wish to add to their wellbeing regime.
